Not the news you wanted to hear

Hi everyone,

Well...

If you haven't guessed, I've been offline for the last few months. This was partly by choice and partly by happenstance. I had been meaning to disconnect in order to clear my head, then circumstances dictated that I have limited internet access.

Is ASSTR still down? I fear this will be its permanent demise. The site has been slowly dying for the past year. First, the commenting feature went down and was never fixed. Then, the website itself started experiencing hiccups in loading.

And then... earlier this year, the United States passed a law that holds websites liable for the conduct of its users.
Link: https://www.vox.com/culture/2018/4/13/17172762/fosta-sesta-backpage-230-internet-freedom

I don't have confirmation that FOSTA-SESTA is the reason ASSTR went down. But I suspect this new law is definitely on their minds.

Could I post here at the blogger.com? Technically no. The story content (if you know what I mean) violates the Terms of Service. The published comments from readers probably toe the line as well.

Could I publish as an author on Amazon? No, they also have stringent rules about content.

Every reputable story site has the same rules: no content involving you-know-what.

What now? Beats me. I want a story site that is free, allows reader feedback, allows any and all content, and one that is in it for the long haul (won't unexpectedly die). I don't think a story site like this exists. If you know one, comment below.

On the other hand, I haven't written much new material anyway. I had a lot more planned for the Jeremy series, but very little beyond the outline stage. Will I continue writing? It's hard to say. The lack of a publishing platform is a definite disincentive.

Besides, Chapter 19 isn't a terrible way to end the series.

I'm not saying I'm done writing. Just thinking out loud. If/when I post another chapter, I'll make sure to update this website to let you all know. In any case, thanks for reading and thanks for being a fan.

~J

  1. Hi Jenus
It's really sadden me to read that. I hope we can find a good host for your wonderful stories.
what about sexstories.com? it seems to have no limits, I think. I'll keep searching.
I'm sure we can find a website, but as the last option, you can always email the story to us, cant you?

    1. Yes, I could email the stories, but I already feel like I'm writing for a super limited audience. I know it sounds narcissistic, but I want to reach a wider group of readers.

It's a shame to see an era, or at least a section, of the internet possibly ending. However, I believe there will still be forums for such story's to be shared. You're, in my opinion, one of the gem writers of the site. The characters are well written and fun to read, Ill await anymore if they come. Hopefully a new forum will open. Until then I'm glad I got the chance to read your works.

    1. I've seen a few other authors I followed through Asstr move to Nifty, and it seems to be working out for him. I hope these can be put up that way.. I have been hoping for another installment of Jeremy and Pam's adventures for months. :)

  7. Damn, that's a shame!. I'm going to miss Pam and Jeremy.

I'm suspect you're right about ASSTR's demise. I know that there are other erotic literature sites on the internet, but I suspect each has rules prohibiting the content that we ASSTR readers enjoy so much.

However, there's always Freenet, right? I think you could post as much as you want there.

    1. True, things like Freenet and the darkweb are an option, but they're... not easy to use. I'd rather stay on the open web, for my own sanity and everyone else's.

  8. This is the worst news! D: It would be a sin to let this series snuff out simply because of the lack of a decent host. Sadly the only ones I know of that seem to be stable and dip into the delicious contents of you know what are leslita with the new webhost and juicy secrets at their new home. Both of which sadly follow the same theme, so a home at either probably isn't an option. You're an amazing writer that tells captivating stories. Don't give up! There's gotta be some place you can call home. It's just a matter of finding it. I'm positive there's more than just me out there eagerly awaiting chapter 20.

  9. If publishing through Amazon is out due to your subject matter, but you maybe able to self publish through Smashwords as they seam to allow far more risky content than Amazon (Esmeralda Greene moved her Erotic stories there after issues with Amazon's no incest rules), and you could publish all the existing chapters as a single book.

Plus another way to look at it is that both Romeo and Juliet, and Lolita would run into publishing issues if they were written today, due to the ages of the characters portrayed.

Anyway, another way to continue, and side step Amazons restriction's would be to jump the story forward a few years, and continue from Jeremy 18th birthday party, as it would be equally interesting to continue the age gap relationship at that point, and then all the main characters would be of legal age, but the main issues would still be unchanged.

Why let modern publishing rules get in the way of telling a first class story, about the taboo issue of an age gap relationship, and if you find another more open publisher you can always go back and fill in the missing stories later, or use flashbacks :-)

  10. I do hope that you continue the series, but it's ultimately your choice. Either way, this series has been both interesting and erotic, so if you do decide to continue I look forward to what you produce next, whatever that might be. Thank you!

  11. I wish there was a way to speak with the current host/administration. Perhaps a work around to allow ASSTR to be hosted differently and keep it going.

  12. There are some authors who have been posting new uploads on asstr
Like for example Tempest comes to mind

    1. ASSTR has been up and down for me. The biggest downside is that the commenting feature has been down since summer of 2017.

  13. I'm really sad to hear that. It was a great story and your a very talented writer. Probably the best on this site. I hope that you will keep writing and know that your work is appreciated. If, however, you decide that it is time to hang up your pen or keyboard than I thank you for sharing your talent with us and I really appreciate the time and thought you have given.

  14. why can't you submit to NIFTY.ORG? I don't think there would be a problem,as they allow ALL sorts of content, especially under the heading of Adult/Youth. Try that, as I REALLY think ppl want to continue to follow the adventures of Jeremy.

    1. I'll check out Nifty. I was under the impression that it was exclusively reserved for gay content (which is cool!) and I didn't want to impose since it's the literary equivalent of a bachelorette party going to a gay bar.

      Delete
    2. Its not exculsive to gay/bi content, there is just a lot of gay/bi stories on Nifty, and there are straight stories on there too, and probably even more now with asstr authors moving there.

      Delete
    3. Nifty is big on Gay content, but they do have a large Bi-Sexual section, which would benefit greatly from having someone who writes as well as you do posting to it. :)

  17. I've noticed Tempest is still submitting stuff to his page.
You might still be able to.
You'd just have to use this page to update us.

  18. I’d love a follow up to the Rest Stop series. While the Jeremy story is good, the Rest Stop was outstanding

  19. Dear Janus,

I am sad to hear that there are so many technical problems to the simple act of "writing on!" :) I think we're all in agreement that we would love to read more stories from you and - as long as you still enjoy - for you to have a platform where it's easy and engaging.

Does anything like that exist? I don't know, since the content is special. Tumblr has some porn content, not sure that is an option. Otherwise we would have to follow you via our mailing list until there is a better option.

    Please go on!

    Best regards

  20. One thing I forgot: Fetlife? They are the biggest kink community and also have a writing-section. You should be able to publish there.

    Best regards

You remain an excellent writer, but your obsession with your Jeremy stories is a great pity. Move away from this personal odyssey and give us back the old Janus ...

    1. I disagree. The Jeremy storyline is the best thing on ASSTR. Besides let Janus write what Janus wants to write! Please Janus, keep writing. Although Chapter 19 is not a terrible way to end the story there still seems to be a lot more to tell.

    2. "The old Janus can't come to the phone now. Why? Because she's dead!"

In case anyone is wondering, the lack of home is not the only thing keeping me from writing. There is also general depression about the current state of affairs.

  33. Sad and frustrated. Sad by the evolution of the net which is not the net I would hope and like. And frsutrated to leave Pam and Jeremy without knowing what naughty things Jeremy will learn during his campfire and how pam will react to her lonely summer.

Anyway take care and be sure your fans will always be here to support your fantastic work.
